Leadership Team

Julie Aylward: Minister

Julie has something in common with Paddington Bear – they were both born in Darkest Peru though she has lived most of her life in the south east of England! Julie is married to Tony. They have three daughters, a foster daughter and two grandchildren. Julie trained at Spurgeons College and has been in ministry since 2005, first in Leicester, and now here in Borstal. Before becoming a minister she worked in a playgroup and then in primary and secondary schools working with children with special needs. In her spare time Julie loves reading, music, going to the cinema and theatre, going out with friends, and being by the sea. Julie and Tony support Wasps rugby team. She also loves talking with people and is passionate about getting out into the community to show God’s love in practical ways. So if you see here around the village please do stop her – she’d love to chat with you.

Suzanne Rogers: Church Secretary

Suz has been part of our church since she was a teenager. As well as being Church Secretary, she is also one of our Deacons and helps lead our Kingsquad, Youth Group and Sunday School. Suz believes strongly in Christians working together across the denominations and says this is why she works for the Church of England! In her spare time, Suz likes to read, tweet and surf the net.  Whilst not exactly the sporty type, she’s taken up running to try and get fit, so if you see her in the village dressed oddly and looking exhausted, give her a cheer.

Bryan Johnson: Church Treasurer

My parents were members of this church many years ago and so I  was taken to the church from a very early age. However, as I grew up into my teenage years I was encouraged to attend Sunday School and Youth Group. I was baptised and became a Church Member in March 1963. As Church Treasurer I deal with all aspects of the financial operation of the church. Other areas of involvement include helping with the maintenance of church premises and providing transport for the elderly to attend church. If and when there is spare time Bryan enjoys train travel.

Lynda Gilbert: Deacon

Lynda joined a church youth club at the age of 15 and became a Christian soon after.  Having studied at Southbank University in London and obtained BSc (hons) in Occupational Therapy, she went on to work for the NHS for over 36 years both in physical and mental health settings. Lynda is now retired and appreciating time with her husband, Phil, 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters. She enjoys reading, sewing (especially quilting), music, art and theatre, socialising with friends and family, and going away for short breaks in their touring caravan. A trained mediator, Lynda also volunteers with a local mediation service. In church, she helps at ‘Little Treasures’, and is our church representative for the local foodbank, collecting and distributing goods as they are donated. Lynda is passionate about equality for people with any type of disability and has been the driving force behind our lift development project. She oversees our developing mission to the local community

Jan Rogers: Deacon

Apart from a short time, Jan has lived in the Medway Towns all her life. She has 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. Before retiring Jan worked in payroll for many years, before making a complete change to working with the elderly with dementia – a job she really enjoyed.  She became part of our church 6 years ago and now helps with ‘Who Let The Dads Out?’ and us responsible for pastoral care in the church community. She has had a faith from a young age and believes in respecting others of different faiths. Jan enjoys talking with people, walking with her dog, gardening, and reading.
